Celebration Time

I have my Business Certificate and I'm celebrating with bubbles for one! sounds a bit sad, but no, firstly it's an absolute scorcher in Adelaide (Australia) today... 43 degrees C (nearly 110 deg. F) and secondly I'm happy study time is over and I can get on with more Hooked On You creations. It's a long time since I've been in a classroom and thankfully nothing like the school I remember.  There's something to be said for mature age students, we were all there because we wanted to be and thanks to Doris our teacher, who made every lesson informative and entertaining.

There's so much I want to do and so little time left, the year is fast coming to an end. Maybe just as well, late nights working at my table are beginning to take their toll and I haven't been able to shake off a cough I've had for months.

As for next year, I'm excited and looking forward to presenting some new designs, new photos and a video.

Bubbles for one... congratulations me :)

A year of Adventure

If I could sum up the last 12 months, that's how I would.... a year of adventure and hard work. Nothing is easy, but it helps if you enjoy what you do.

It all started with an idea, then the idea became a reality but there is so much more that happened in between. My multitasking kitchen table doubles as my design and manufacturing station, as well as art studio and I'm grateful to all my family and friends who understand how I roll!  Oh, and we've enjoyed many a fine nights dining, ala Ingrid's culinary style around that table.

Behind the scenes

To watch my creations come to life in the studio was absolutely awesome and again there was a lot that happened in between. First of all, I met with the photographer, I told him, "I had never done anything like this before". He was patient, very patient and down to earth. He explained everything I had to do... I took notes and asked so many questions, then called, sent texts and emailed, as I said he was very patient.

The first time I showed him my design layout, I was so nervous and sure he would find something wrong... I was so relieved when he smiled.

I love how gorgeous this little set is. A lacy little bralette with panties and stay up stockings.

Add a flirty little robe!

Not forgetting the cute little ruffled satin and lace suspenders that can be worn with a G or panties!

The same bikini inspired bandeau and G as above, teamed with a satin elastic suspender with gold suspender rings (also available in silver), which fit easily and effortlessly to the stockings. A long robe adds the perfect romantic finishing touch.

When I create lingerie, I like to design the complete ensemble. Simple and elegant, to mix and match. Wearing lingerie is something a woman can do for herself to make her feel fabulous.

Some unwanted time off and back to my two sewing machine friends... some may dispute that in my household!  I have previously and am again working on leggings and I will be revealing something new and different in the near future, oh and a video.

If you're new to my blog, my label Hooked On You, is about simplicity and thinking outside the square. Applying suspender clips to stockings can be so frustratingly fiddly and awkward, frankly who could be bothered? Must be why stay-up stockings were invented.

I won't bore you too much, but from information I could gather it looks like suspender belts have been around since the beginning of the 20th century and reached popularity in the 1940's. The first Nylon stockings were sold across American stores in 1940, with women lining up to buy their precious pair.

1940, exciting times - a woman putting on her new nylons then and there!

Women wore sturdy suspender belts with metal clips to hold their stockings up. In principle the suspender clip has remained the same. The vintage suspender clips were made to last, although still a fiddly nightmare to attach to stockings. Today's suspender clips are smaller, unreliable and ping off, are fiddlier to attach and some are made of hard plastic and snap when trying to secure over the rubber nub.

1940's vintage and today's suspender clips

I wanted  to offer women an easier alternative to the fiddly suspender suspender clip.
Copied from 'My Story' at

The romantic story of Hooked On You started many years ago, during an evening get together with friends. At that time, I had no idea one of our conversations would inspire and lead me to come up with the innovative  suspender ring.
It was months later, a store mannequin wearing suspenders caught my eye and I remembered thinking how right my friends were, the suspenders did look sexy, however trying to attach fiddly suspender clips to stockings is a difficult procedure, involving a few backbreaking attempts to get it right, or risk repeating the process all over again. The suspender ring is an attractive, easy, simple and reliable alternative to the suspender clip and is available in four flattering, interchangeable colours (gold, silver, dark silver and black).
Our suspender ring has a spring loaded, inward opening arm and loops effortlessly through both the suspender strap and our stocking's decorative ribbon and rhinestone embellishment, offering level straps and a secure hold with minimal fuss. The ring should be detached for before washing the suspenders and stockings.
Whilst researching the worlds most luxurious women's lingerie, in particular stockings, I found all thigh high stocking brands had a lack of consistency in sizing and the height and weight scale provided on the packaging was inaccurate. Even if women are the same height and weight, their leg size and shape can vary considerably.  I made it my mission, to be able to offer women a selection of sizes, so I came up with a solution and created a new, true to size measuring chart, to ensure the right fit. Our beautiful European thigh high stockings are available in 4 sizes. View full sizing chart under 'sizing' in Stockings (click on Stockings, click on picture, click on sizing and 'view full sizing chart' is listed below calculate my size).
Exploring the unlimited world of creative options, I came up with a small range of exclusive intimate wear.
First and foremost, I created Hooked On You to offer women a reliable and unique range of sensual, comfortable intimate wear, as every woman deserves to look and feel sexy.

Look who I found

Open up a bridal magazine today and who do I see?
Introducing my son, Andrew, web designer and part time model and my computer guru, who designed and built Hooked On You's website.

Very James Bondish :)

Hi and welcome to my exclusive, French inspired lingerie, Hooked On You.
I have designed each elegant piece to match and compliment, from my bikini inspired lacy bralette and panties, to unique satin elastic suspender belts and ruffled satin with lace suspender belts, both with the new, innovative and interchangeable suspender rings available in a choice of colours, silver, gold, gunmetal and black and only exclusively available at Hooked On You.

My range is elegantly sensual with a flattering yet simple style, combined with easy to assemble suspender belts and suspender rings. The innovative suspender ring eliminates the stress of attaching suspenders to stockings as well as creating a brand new fashion statement. Hooked On You's European style stockings are available in four sizes and have a pretty hand made ribbon and diamante embellishment attached to the centre front and back of the stockings to accommodate the suspender rings.

To compliment my lingerie, I have designed a range of sensual and delicate Kimono style Robes, in short, three quarter length and elegantly long. Hooked On You's Robes are made with the finest silks and chiffons with delicate lace or satin trims.

I design all my lingerie and many pieces are made by me and an Adelaide based manufacturer in Australia.

Sam, our model is wearing Hooked On You's Ivory ensemble with a delicately light and soft, three quarter length Kimono style Robe with beautiful English lace trim.

Beautiful lace trim on fine chiffon

Delicate and comfortable... my bikini inspired lace bralette with soft satin ribbon halter neck ties.
Matching bralette and Panties (G-string) and satin elastic suspender belt or ruffled satin with lace suspender belt including suspender rings and lace top thigh high stockings.
The satin elastic suspender has an adjustable clip at the back and can also be worn higher in the waist.

Most suspender belts are designed to be worn over panties and look unflattering if the panties are worn over the suspenders. For your comfort and obvious convenience my thoughtful range of suspenders are designed to look as though they are worn over the panties, however they are worn under panties!

Our sassy and easy to apply suspender rings are available in four interchangeable colours: silver, gold, gunmetal and black.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my blog. Please view my online store and if you have any questions, please feel free to email

    Elisa answered
OK. Put on your corset and get it so the belts hand down from it. Don't lace it up tight yet. Put on your stockings and see how high the top of the stockings are. The top usually have a band that has more fabric and is a bit more durable than the sheer nylon elsewhere on the stocking. Make sure the little straps from the suspender hang down so that the clips are a little bit above the top of the stockings, I'd guess maybe about two inches on the front straps. You want the clips on the belt to be a bit above the stocking because you will need to pull it down to the stocking to clip it on so they provide the tension to pull the stocking up when you are done. The ones in the back will need to hang higher from the back of the stocking. The straps on the back will need to be adjusted so they are longer than the front ones. You need to get them to go over your tush, which is longer than just going straight down in the front. Because they are longer, you need to stretch them more to get the same tension in the strap, which is why you also want the longer straps in the back to hang higher above the top of the stocking than the front ones. I would guess the ones in the back might need to be like 4 inches above the top of the stocking. The first time you do this, you might be playing and adjusting this thing for a while to get it just right. Then you just leave the straps alone.

Now you can lace up the corset and then put on the clips. Or you can cheat and put the clips on, adjust position of your corset and lace it up. I usually cheat.

The clip usually is a metal piece with what looks like a key hole. The other piece is usually a piece of flexible plastic, like silicone rubber. It has a round button sticking out on it. How it works is the round button goes into the larger hole in the metal flat and then slide into the slot. To open it, you just slide the rubber button out to the hole and it comes out. So open up the clip by sliding the rubber part out of the flat metal clip. Pull the strap down to the top band of your stocking. Put the rubber/plastic part on the inside. There should be a little piece of satin ribbon or some fabric too on the inside so your skin doesn't rest right against the plastic. Then you bring the metal clip on the outside on top, over the stocking now covering the round plastic button. Push the button with the stocking on top into the hole in the metal hole and slide it into the slot. It should kind of tight and might be harder to do now that there's extra material, but you shouldn't rip anything. That's why the thing is made of silicone and the top of the stocking is heavier. Bring the little flaps ribbon or whatever they happen to be made and cover up the clips. Do this for all the straps. The ones behind you are kind of a pain, by the way. It takes a contortionist to do them sometimes. When you have all the clips on, just adjust things to get them to sit right and pull up your stocking evenly.

I think that's pretty much it. If your clip works some other way, then I have no idea. I've only see the kind that I described.
Hmmm...  flat pack furniture instructions are easier to understand than Elisa's answer!

Is there an easy way to attach the back straps of a suspender belt to your stockings girls??

  • Claire asked call me thick? But I've just bought a really nice chimise type thing to wear for my b/f...has attached suspenders and I've bought lace top stockings. Now, fitting the little straps at the front to the stocking tops is's when I come to try and attach the back ones!!! I just can't seem to get the hook over the little circle thing.......(sorry for lack of technical terms!) there an easy way?..........weird question I know but not much use if can't get the back ones done too!!!! HELP girls.
Robin answered

It's a nightmare, I try leaning backwards but that can be a little dangerous.

It takes practise but my god, when I first had to try it i spent about an hour trying to get it done up and was thorwing a tantrum by the time i was finished. not sexy!
Christina answered

Not in my experience, it helps to have a supple back and good balance! All I do is pull the stockings up, and then twist round trying to bend down and around. It is very fiddly and it often takes me several attempts to get them straight. Sorry, it's not better advice, keep practicing or do what I do now and that's wear hold ups most of the time.
Maybe Robin thought Claire was putting a straight jacket on...... this is funny stuff!

This is how the suspender ring works
(I will post a video soon)

Our exclusive suspender rings have an inward opening arm and the stockings have a looped ribbon and diamante embellishment. Simply feed the suspender rings through the suspender straps and the ribbon loop on the stockings and vuala, it's that simple!

Remove the suspender rings, before washing your lingerie.

We have cute little gold embossed Hooked On You gift bags. Feed one through a suspender ring... a very intimate way to give a gift.

Sam, our beautiful model, is my daughter's facebook friend. I can't believe we found her on facebook. When I asked her if she would consider modelling my lingerie label, she said, "Ingrid, I trust you and I would love to, but are you sure you want me?" The pictures speak for!
On the day of the photo shoot Sam was intrigued with the suspender rings and couldn't believe how easy and how fast they were to attach to the stockings and she loved the sassy look they gave to her legs.
During the photo shoot, Sam changed suspender rings so many times, from black to silver and then gold and every time I turned to help her, she had already done so, quickly and effortlessly, even with her beautiful, long acrylic fingernails.

Thank you Sam, you were a joy to work with.
Without my family and friends, non of this would have been possible and I love you all. :)
Thanks for stopping by and reading my blog. Please check out my website, and if you have any questions, please feel free to email me,

+Hooked On You

Saturday, November 2, 2013

A couple of months ago I packed up my car with my lingerie samples, mannequin and props and hit the road to Melbourne, a long 725km drive to their 3 day fashion trade show, Fashion experience I will never forget.

I had to leave on a Friday to set up my stall the next day, ready to display my Hooked On You label for the Sunday trade show. I had planned on leaving early, but somehow my best laid plans came undone and I finally left at 4.00pm. As I was driving, my mind was going over everything I had packed and I was hoping I had listed everything and missed nothing. I made peace with myself after leaving the traffic behind, taking in the scenery of country South Australia, listening to my favourite music and feeling relaxed I was excited about my road trip adventure!

As I crossed the South Australian border into Victoria, the sun was going down and I could see the odd kangaroo and rabbits feeding on the side of the road. I was praying a roo (short for Kangaroo) wouldn't appear on the road. A big red kangaroo can stand over 6ft in height and can cause quite a bit of damage to a car travelling at 100km/hr. Before nightfall I was overtaking trucks and road trains (trucks with double rigs) with a feeling, I had the road to myself. However, as darkness fell I didn't want the prospect of a Kangaroo jumping out and in front of my car, so I decided to keep a safe distance behind a truck and hoped (definitely not wished for), if there was anything on the road the truck would hit it first.

At 1.00am my GPS finally found the apartment! The next morning at 9.00, I had to battle my way through Melbourne's traffic and unfamiliar roads to the Exhibition Centre. My GPS kept telling me I had reached my destination but all I could see was the Convention Centre. The map I had been given didn't make any sense to me, so I drove around the block a few times and for the life of me, I couldn't see the Exhibition Centre! Eventually I pulled in to the front of the Convention Centre, only to be told I was an unauthorised vehicle and must leave... now! He was annoyed and wouldn't let me speak. I drove around the block one more time desperately looking for the Exhibition Centre and again back to the Convention Centre, where my GPS had again told me, I had reached my destination! A taxi driver got out of his car and approached mine, having witnessed my hasty exit, he asked me if I was lost as he saw my South Australian plates. He told me to follow him (it was complicated and I would never have found it, nor did my GPS!). He delivered me to the unloading dock at the back of the Exhibition Centre and wished me the best of luck..... he was so kind and restored my faith in humanity!

I was given a safety vest and trolley, found my stall and unloaded my car and began setting up. The Exhibition Centre was a place of chaos, with clothes racks whizzing by, electricians setting up lighting, forklifts driving up and down the aisles, and people unpacking and setting up. A lovely lady by the name of Severine, a business development manager for Fashion Exposed came by to introduce herself. I had previously spoken to Severine on the phone and she knew this was my first trade show. I set up my stall just like the, 'to scale model' I had created at home! Severine gave me some tips and 6 hours later I had finished setting up and was exhausted.

To my surprise a dear friend of mine, Mandy phoned  me and wanted to know if there was a spare bed in the apartment I was staying at and if I needed help! A couple of hours later, Mandy was on a plane and I was so glad she was there to support me.

The next morning Mandy and I followed my not so trusted GPS's instructions to the trade show. We met a friend of mine, Alexandra who lives in Melbourne and who was kind enough to also help me on the Sunday. The chaos from the day before was gone and Melbourne's Fashion Exposed was ready to open. I was so excited!

Over the next two days there were fashion shows, media and so many people from all corners of the world visiting the trade show. We handed out leaflets, met and chatted to many interesting people and I was so happy to be able to show off my lingerie designs and my new concept, the suspender ring. Thanks to Mandy, I was able to leave my stall and attend a few fashion seminars. My favourite seminar was Alex Perry's, an Australian fashion designer and I was inspired by his life story and work ethic.

Over the last couple of years I have heard so many stories about suspender clips. I must admit some of them have been pretty funny, but seriously how frustrating must it be when you spend ages trying to attach suspender clips to stockings?

Some women have had their night ruined by back pain, trying to attach the back suspender clips and if you've got long acrylic nails.... forget it! It's difficult enough keeping the plastic clip (the metal ones are better) in place at the front of the stocking, while your fingers have to push the rubber raised bit tight against the underside of the stockings, if you had long finger nails, you probably would have ripped through your stocking at this stage and if you were fortunate enough to have your stockings in tact then all the best of luck sliding the metal clip up over the stocking covered rubber bit. It can take quite a few attempts, but if you manage on your first attempt, then rejoice!

If you haven't centered the straps properly, the clips have to be unclipped and redone. Does anyone have any energy left, let alone attaching the back suspender clips?

Then, when all are attached, try not to sit or bend forward too much because the back suspender clips will most likely ping off!

The vintage styles are stronger and will hold for longer but not everyone wants vintage. My Mother told me she always had to reattach a back suspender at some stage of the day or night and the occasional front one, back in the 1960's

I recently found this complaint.

Why Won't These Damn Things Stay On?

September 16, 2010 5:51 AM    Subscribe

What am I doing wrong with my garters and stockings?

I like wearing the old fashioned kinds of garter belt with the clips (plastic) with thigh-high stockings. However, they only stay clipped on for a little while before I'll bend or move too much and they'll snap off and I have to reattach them. It happens more on the back ones than the front. Why?

Here are some possibilities I thought of:

- the fabric on the stocking top is too thick for the clip
- the garters aren't long enough (I put them at the longest length)
- the garter belt and the stockings aren't meant for each other (garter belt from some store online, thigh highs from Duane Reade)
- the garter belt is super cheap and wouldn't stay clipped onto anything

Is there a special technique to gartering? Are there better ones to buy that don't have these problems? Should I try metal ones? I'm willing to spend money if there is a significant difference. Any brand or type recommendations?

I feel her frustration!

Was there a need to do something about this? I think so, anyway I think a change is great!

That's why I came up with the innovative suspender ring, some sass for your legs! They are so easy to attach to my tagged stockings and  are so reliable and wont come off until you want them to.

The stockings have a decorative, permanent ribbon and diamante embellishment. This acts as a guide for the suspender ring, which has an inward opening arm and will definitely hold secure until you remove them.

The centred embellishment adds a pretty finishing touch to Hooked On You's thigh high and stay up range. No more fiddling and adjusting, our suspender straps will always stay level! Our stay up stockings can be worn with or without a suspender belt.

The suspender rings are available in 4 different interchangeable colours: gold, silver, gunmetal and black to compliment your lingerie and jewelry accessories.

Thank you for the great feed back, it's been crazy, in a good way and for those of you that haven't experienced Hooked On You's suspender rings and would like to ask some questions, please email me on

Thanks and kind regards

So far, the journey of Hooked On You has been quite an adventure.... It's the hardest thing I've ever done and it's been really awesome! Did I ever picture myself doing something like this... designing lingerie? Never!

Here's how it all started...
A few years ago, some friends and I were engaged in a conversation about lingerie, when a particular friend had us all laughing with a rather theatrical demonstration on the perils of attaching suspender clips to stockings.

A few months later after purchasing a bra, I noticed a mannequin wearing some suspenders and remembered the funny 'demo' antics of my friend. A very polite, but awkward looking shop assistant asked if I needed help. Realizing I was standing there smiling at the mannequin, I  felt a little embarrassed, so I told the shop assistant my brief story and to my surprise, she told me suspenders did look sexy and she too thought suspender clips were a nightmare to attach, in particular to the back of stockings.

That night, I started thinking and drawing other alternatives to the suspender clip, surely there was another easier way! At that point my competitive nature kicked in and I was going to find a solution.

I bought so many hooks, clips and bits and pieces from haberdashery stores and made prototype after prototype. The months went by, but I wasn't giving up, there had to be a way!

Then something inspirational happened! On a visit to my Mother's home, she handed me a large scroll, given to my late Father years ago on one of their trips to Germany. It was the Rosemeyer  family tree from my Father's side. Mum wanted me to have it and to record my family's names under my Father's name. We gently rolled it out on my Mother's table and I was in awe to see the Rosemeyer name from Loeningen, Germany date back to the 1700's. One of the names held my fascination, a man by the name of Bernd Rosemeyer. As a little girl, I remember my Father telling me stories about a relative, a famous formula 1 racing driver from the 1930's called Bernd Rosemeyer.

I went home and looked up Bernd Rosemeyer on the internet and was intrigued at this piece of family history. Bernd was tenacious and adventurous and intertwined was an amazing love story. He was admired by many and is still remembered today. The V16, 520 horsepower with it's mid engine and rear drive made it a difficult car to handle, but he drove it his way and to several Grand Prix victories. It's a wonder a film hasn't been made of his short life! He drove for Auto Union with the four traditional rings, now known as Audi and when I saw a picture of  Bernd Rosemeyer sitting on his Auto Union car with the four rings, I had a light bulb moment, this picture was telling me something! I then knew exactly what I had to do.... 4 suspender rings!

Thank you for reading my blog and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me at my email,

Welcome to Hooked On You's blog

Hi and welcome to my blog, Hooked On You :)

This is a blog for those who like something a little different in lingerie. I like thinking outside the square and enjoy exploring the limits of my creativity. For too long, some lingerie items have been complicated, time consuming and difficult to assembly. My creations are elegantly comfortable, easy to wear with a simple and creative styling.

I've added a newbie to my line, called the suspender ring. It replaces the fiddly, awkward and backbreaking suspender clip. The suspender ring is exclusive only to Hooked On You and I'll tell you the story behind it in my next blog posting.

Introducing the suspender ring exclusive only to
Hooked On You

Robes, I love Robes and have designed a line of sensual Robes to compliment all my lingerie.

I must confess I can't stand uncomfortable, complicated lingerie, or clothing for that matter! So if you like comfortable and simple styling, I hope you'll stop by and check out my line... just click on the on-line store link to the right of this post.

So if you like to think outside the square, like I do, here is what you can expect.

* NO MORE suspender clips!

* No more 'one size fits all' thigh high's! It took a bit of research, but I found a manufacturer that makes them in different sizes. Hopefully one day I can convince them to open up their machines and make some bigger ones too. If anyone can help me out with this, I would be so grateful!

* Comfy little lacy tops, I'm trying my hand at Spandex and lycra with lace, so I will be adding something new soon. Oh, and some leggings too!

* And colour, colour, colour (that's how we spell it in Australia!)

Please feel free to contact me via email and I will be happy to answer any questions.

Kind regards
Ingrid Rosemeyer
